This position organizes and conducts medially-prescribed therapy programs using theory and skills from Occupational Therapy to rehabilitate residents and clients toward their improved functional capacity. This position provides therapy services for residents of VCC’s skilled nursing and assisted living programs as well as community-based out-patients. 

Our Speech Therapists are responsible for the following:

• Evaluating assigned patients, developing and implementing a treatment and discharge plan based upon results and modifying it as necessary to meet resident/patient goals
• Assuming case management and patient advocacy roles as needed.
• Continually upgrading clinical skill level.
• Participating in program development in-services and staff meetings.
• Promoting a safe and secure environment for both team members and patients.
• Assisting in evaluating, ordering and maintaining all adaptive equipment and durable medical equipment.
• Screening all Skilled Nursing residents and establishing restorative programs.
• Participating in quality assurance programs, including peer review.  Complying with all applicable Federal and State regulations governing Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing programs.
• Actively supporting the treatment team, department and rehabilitation goals and objectives.
• Assisting in reviewing all resident/client injuries and all team member injuries to prevent re-occurrence and implementing accident prevention strategies.
• Assisting in care planning processes
• Assisting in training and educating team members, residents and clients regarding transfer techniques, work simplification and utilization of mechanical lifts.
• Promoting the Mission, Vision and Values of Transforming Age in all areas of responsibility.

Education and/or Experience, Skills and Abilities

• Bachelor’s degree in Speech Therapy; Must have met all clinical affiliation requirements and have passed the national exam.
• A current license or certification in Washington State.
• One year in long term care or acute care setting preferred.
• Strong knowledge of relevant rehabilitation therapy techniques and procedures in respective discipline.
• Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care to residents/clients ranging in age from young adults to older adults including knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span, possession of the ability to access data reflective of the individual’s status and be able to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each individual’s requirements relative to his or her condition and age-specific needs.
• A caring, passionate personality and ability to develop and maintain meaningful, positive relationships with residents, patients, families, physicians and team members.
• Excellent communication skills both in speaking and writing
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
