Positions Details

The Director of Nursing Services is responsible for responding to needs of residents and functions in the role of Director of all nursing responsibilities for the community. This position is responsible for providing emergency intervention to residents to facilitate the residents’ well-being and providing nursing intervention to facilitate the individual resident's independence. The Director of Nursing Services will plan, organize, develop, direct and evaluate the nursing service operation ensuring the highest degree of quality patient care and ensure adherence to all applicable federal, state and local laws and standards.


Here at Waterford, our Director of Nursing Services is responsible for:


  • Supervising all healthcare team members, including hiring, training, evaluating and counseling
  • Supervising medication room, nursing team members, Medication Assistant/CMA, and Health Services Associate
  • Planning, implementing, supervising, and scheduling nursing services
  • Providing intervention to respond to emergencies and problems
  • Maintaining medical charting and required documentation
  • Assessing residents for change in level of care and coordinating billing
  • Administering and coordinating medications for residents
  • As Waterford's Registered Nurse, you will order medication and refills and work directly with our residents' physicians
  • Working closely with residents and families to develop & implement appropriate care plans
  • Assisting residents with medical appointments and coordinating transportation
  • Participating in the rotation of on-call duty
  • Supervising uniform code, pager use, and name tags
  • Creating and managing your teams' schedules and securing replacement for absences
  • Assisting in filling out Incident Reports for residents and staff


What we're asking for from our ideal Director of Nursing Services:


  • Must have an active Registered Nurse license in the state of Minnesota in good standing
  • Have a minimum of two years’ experience in nursing leadership or a nursing supervisor position; experience in an Assisted Living setting is strongly preferred
  • A FUN, upbeat and outgoing personality and fantastic attitude are a must!
  • Have excellent written and communication skills
  • Be able to work in a consulting role on a regional and community level
  • Provide strong leadership and teaching skills
  • Have a desire to foster team member growth, success and ongoing training and education
  • Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Display a deep knowledge of HIPAA compliance and confidentiality
